Chiikawa: for kids or not?
I saw the Chiikawa movie. I give it a 8/10: the transition to long format is not done perfectly, but good enough. Of course it has some epic and cute moments. I watched a cam recording with English subtitles. Which isn't my prefered way, but I see no plans to do an official English release. Reviewers and viewers are noticing the movie is super dark at times (not the lightning, but the subject matter). I'm swaying back and forth a bit whether Chiikawa is for kids or not. I read a comment relaying creator Nagano who said she liked these dark things as a kid and she liked just getting that vibe, while not completely understanding what was going on. Here I have to think about Chiikawa and Hachiware in the manga, reading scary stories on the internet: scared, Chiikawa crying, but reading 'just one more story'.
