Preinstalled laptops suck

Apparently. The Windows installation on this VAIO was unstable from the beginning, so after 5 weeks, while I was playing poker online, it crashed and it wouldn't restore itself. Because the automatic repair thing didn't work, of course, I'm inclined to say, so I would have had to it back to the dealer. But, luckily, I had a Windows 7 installation DVD. 

Now I still have to get the Fn functions to work as well as the touch pad.

Lesson learnt: don't trust anyone nor preinstalled laptops.

Mijn levende LinnDrum nostalgie

De Lm Drum, een versie van de LinnDrum, door Behringer Mijn huidige special interest synth is de LinnDrum. Deze video, van Alex Ball , geeft een goed overzicht van de LinnDrum: kort de geschiedenis, uitgebreider de sound. De Linndrum is beroemd om haar karakteristieke geluid en omdat het de eerste drummachine was met digitale samples (of de eerste met digitale samples die enigszins toegankelijk was voor het grotere publiek; “enigszins”, omdat hij 3000 dollar kostte: bijna 10 duizend euro nu). Mijn eerste kennismaking met de LinnDrum  was in FL Studio, waarin ik al mijn elektronische muziek maakte (20 jaar geleden; een niet heel overzichtelijk overzicht vind je op http://martijnschackmann.nl/music.html ). In FL Studio zaten standaard drum samples waarvan de naam begon met Ln, als ik het me goed herinner. Brugge, Kustpad: Sluis - Neeltje Jans

Blog over mijn bezoek aan Brugge, in België, en het lopen van vier dagen Kustpad, in Zeeland, van Sluis naar Neeltje Jans. De foto's vind je ook in dit album .  Ik heb deel 2 en 3 van het Kustpad erop zitten: Zuid- en Noord-Holland, Friesland en Groningen. Nu rest mij deel 1: Zeeland . Ik eerst dacht: dat moet goed bereikbaar zijn vanuit Den Haag, maar beginpunt Sluis is vier uur met het OV. Ik keek dus of ik ergens in Sluis of ergens in de buurt wilde overnachten. Zo'n plaats bleek er te zijn: Brugge. Nog steeds een uur met de bus, maar ik wilde graag naar Brugge, omdat daar de fantastisch leuke film In Bruges  speelt. Ik herkeek die film na mijn trip en zag tot mijn vreugde daarin een shot van de Onze Lieve Vrouwe  kerk in de mist, net zoals ik die op de foto nam (zie hier rechts). Some thoughts on Game of Thrones, season 8, episode 5

Without a doubt the best episode of the season. It was a good twist. The set-up, Dany going mad, was a bit weak, but whatever. We got Clegane Bowl, and it looked marvelous. It was a good fight. The Jamie - Euron fight not so much. There were other great scenes, which utilized the characters built well. It mainly was a good episode because the best thing of the books is the third book, A Storm of Swords, because it shows well this quote from the first book, where Lord Varys asks: “Tell me, Lord Eddard ... why is it always the innocents who suffer most, when you high lords play your game of thrones?” It shows this through the eyes of Brienne, travelling with Podrick and Arya, travelling with The Hound, through Westeros, which is utterly torn by the wars. I feel George R.R. Martin really writes Literature here. The Battle of Blackwater, in the first book and these scenes A Storm of Swords really made me think of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. But this huge dread was pretty absent from...
