Het is 2045. Ik zit in het campagneteam van GroenLinks op Mars. De campagne op Mars bracht uitdagingen met zich mee, maar deze hebben we grotendeels opgelost. Aan onderwerpen hebben we op Mars geen gebrek. Geen enkele Marsbewoner ontkent dat de terravorming op Mars gelijk liep met het creëren van milieuproblemen die niet onderdeden voor die op Aarde aan het begin van de eeuw. Het wonen op Mars heeft daarbij unieke sociale problemen met zich meegebracht. Deze zijn door de buit enaardse sociologie wetenschappen goed in kaart gebracht. GroenLinks wéét wat de problemen zijn en hoe die opgelost moeten worden. Maar hoe overtuigen we de kiezer op Mars van onze visie? Op Aarde heeft GroenLinks, na tientallen jaren worstelen, de campagne volstrekt succesvol weten te maken, met Duyvendaks eenvormige communicatiemodel. Helaas werkt dit model op Mars niet. Gisteren werd me gevraagd of ik dan wél wist wie de legendarische nummer veertien was. Ik antwoordde: "Is het Cruijff, ofzo?"  Lof viel mij ten deel. Ik wist dit vooral dankzij  Marko , die me dit een keer op Facebook heeft gezegd. Ik heb best wel een actieve haat jegens voetbal, maar vind het toch belangrijk om er íets van te weten. Het nummer van Cruijff heb ik in mijn hoofd opgeslagen als ergens tussen de tien en vijftien. Ik hoop dat bijv. Van Basten niet ook in die reeks zit.

R.I.P. Perry (from Capote's In Cold Blood) I haven't finished Capote's In Cold Blood yet, but I really want to write the following already. I didn't think this book would be an easy read, but still... I'm devastated. The depths to which I feel sorry for Perry, one of the two killers, run deeper than I could have imagined. I cry for Perry, but it brings no relief, I'm not just sad for him: I'm depressed. It seems weird I'm even more sympathetic towards Perry than the Clutter family he's helped kill. I've come up with two explanation for this. The family that Perry and his partner in crime Dick killed, the Clutters, never stood a chance. Reading the book after 60 years makes their fate seem even more unavoidable. This detective in the book, Dewey, actually ends up feeling the same way: they might as well have been struck by lightning. For Perry, on the other hand, I imagine there's been so many moments in which his life could have taken ...

The movie Interstellar to me felt like a lot of missed opportunities. This review contains some spoilers. You probably don't want to read a review before seeing a movie, anyway. Best I liked the overall idea of finding new habitable planets. I liked the chances everyone had to take: NASA sending out the initial twelve astronauts, being pretty sure they'd die a crappy death; the new crew trying to decide which planets were the most viable options. The planets looked pretty good. However, they couldn't compete with the awe I felt flying of the Alien Prometheus planet. I liked Matt Damon's arc. I liked how he portrayed some of the repugnant traits of the human species. I thought the movie was a classic up to the point of going beyond the horizon of the black hole. Na de Gaza-demonstratie van zondag 27 juli Twitterde Chris Aalberts: "Arno Bonte distantieert zich NIET van de uitspraak: "Israeliers zijn de moderne Hitlers". #groenlinks" . Rapper Appa had in een fel betoog betoog expansionistische zionisten moderne Hitlers genoemd. Bonte, van GroenLinks Rotterdam, reageerde  slechts  door de boodschap van de demonstratie te herhalen en te zeggen dat Aalberts zich eenzijdig focuste . Daarnaast gaf hij aan dat wat  GroenLinks vond in zijn speech te horen was  en  benadrukte hij de positieve kant van de demonstratie. Een dag later nam hij toch afstand van de Hitler vergelijking . Ik denk dat hij dat toch eerder had moeten doen. Een week eerder pakte Inge Vianen het, wat mij betreft, goed aan met de Tweet " Gedemonstreerd uit solidariteit met de Palestijnen. I just watched Survivor season 28. What really makes it enjoyable are these podcasts out there with in-depth interviews (I listened to the exit interviews here: http://robhasawebsite.com/ , there's possibly a lot more). I watched this season because it had this pokerplayer, an online coach. He sure was interesting. But most other participants as well. The game is kind of depressing (I think 1 million prize money is is too high, incidentally), but the strategizing, hardship, p ersonalities and also the challenge games they come up with were fascinating. From the podcasts I understand the shows sum up what actually happens pretty well. The game's depressing because with the strategizing you get these considerations of contestants wanting to vote off others that are too good, overall, or too likable, etc. It is just a game (or: 'just' a game?), but you wonder how that is in the real world... Just a few months to the next season: there's two every year!
