So it's great how these songs from my youth now come up for me again and I can appreciate them even more. I've posted Sepultura's Refuse/Resist before, which is about the people taking the streets in protest. Now I'm posting Rage Against The Machine - Killing In the Name. The lyrics are so great. I used to think it is hyperbole to say: "so all those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses," but now Naomi Klein is explaining to me, in her book No is not enough, how racism is one of the tools the ones in power use to set up people against each other so they're too busy to revolt against the people pulling the strings. Another, more recent, example is how wages are kept to a minimum, so people are too busy trying to keep their head above water. All the answer needed to all this is just a resounding: "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me!"

Soms vraag je je af of niemand je begrijpt. Als je bijvoorbeeld keer op keer zegt 'ik denk n iet dat je per se racistisch hoeft te zijn, om wel een racistisch systeem, in dit geval Zwarte Piet, in stand te helpen houden', en als je dan keer op keer dat verkeerde antwoord krijgt: 'ik weet niet wat je daarmee bedoelt en ik vind dat je niet iedereen racistisch moet noemen die het niet met je eens is'. Maar sommigen begrijpen je wel. Helaas vooral degenen die al helemaal aan jou kant staan. Helaas omdat je ook vooral die anderen wilt bereiken. Maar ik vond het toch fijn toen  Lennart  op gegeven moment precies wist uit te leggen wat mijn stanpunt was en dat hij mij kende als iemand die toch echt tot nuance in staat was, ondanks dat ik me nu misschien confronterend opstelde Maar één stukje toelichting dat Lennart gaf, wil ik toch nog nader op ingaan. Noodgedwongen heb ik mijn afgelopen klimaatweekend ook gebruikt voor geestelijk herstel. Ik heb de laatste tijd namelijk wat last gehad van wat overspannenheidsklachten. Overspannenheid komt vaker dan gemiddeld voor in de klimaatbeweging. Waarom is dat eigenlijk? Het thema van het klimaatweekend was klimaatrechtvaardigheid. Op zondag kwamen de Guardians of the Forest langs. De dag werd geopend met verscheidene openingsceremonies, zo dansten we op drums en stelde iedereen zich kort voor. Ook brachten we offers door iets op het vuur te gooien. Dat was symbolisch: we gooiden er een takje op en daarbij uitten we een wens.  Mijn wens luidde: "I welcome all feelings, Good and bad, There's a place for all of them" Ik was erg onder de indruk van mijn eigen wens. Ik had hem niet helemaal zelf verzonnen: afgezien van de formulering was het wat een meisje me de avond ervoor had gezegd. Great video essay by the lovely channel  Wisecrack  on what probably makes  Stranger Things  great. Little reveal: it's not really nostalgia. It's something way more deep and beautiful. (As I'm typing, I see season 2 is dropping in less than an hour. I won't be able to see it for a couple of days, though.) To go into the Wisecrack video a very little bit, spoilers for that, just watch it first, it's not long (information heavy, for sure): The video also mentions  South Park 's memberberries. The memberberries are designed to be very irritating characters, with success. South Park is completely on point with them, though: nostalgia is used terribly unimaginative in society now. It's more a dumb kind of fetish. So Strangers Things looks like a lot of nostalgia, and *is*, on the surface, but at the core it's about taking kids and kids' world view seriously. That *seems* like nostalgia, but it's way deeper and, to me, moving. My criticism...

So is Donald Trump a fascist? Just some musings by someone that doesn't actually know that much about that term. So it's not that fascism is smart (or dumb, for that matter, it's just a form of government), but I'm afraid Trump is too dumb to be a fascist. So if he's a fascist, he'd be an proponent of something like dumb-fascism. (Is Trump dumb? Maybe not terribly, but just willfully ignorant on too many subjects. Maybe it's more of a trait of totalitarianism in general, but fascist regimes will create internal and external enemies. Internal ones I think are most striking. Does he create does? Yes. But in more ways than you'd imagine. More obvious ones are immigrants in general, especially Muslims and Mexicans. But really it's possibly *all* minorities that are the internal enemy. It's quite amazing, really, such diligence from such a lazy guy, but hate makes even this deadbeat productive. So which minorities among others? People of color, ...

Ik post er niet meer veel over, maar ik ben nog steeds behoorlijk bezig met poker. Wanneer je je meer in verdiept in hedendaagse theorie over het spel, dan wordt poker steeds meer mathematisch en zo minder toepasselijk op het echte leven. Maar de essentie blijft: het is een zero-sum game (rake buiten beschouwing gelaten). En veel in het leven is ook zero-sum. Bijvoorbeeld politiek. Dat betekent niet gelijk dat je een cynicus als Donald Trump hoeft te worden. Maar het betekent wel dat ik nadenken over het mislukken van de formatie met GroenLinks behoorlijk nutteloos vindt. Rutte had *niks* te verliezen door *niks* aan Klaver te geven. Iedereen kon met die kennis van te voren beredeneren dat de onderhandelingen met GroenLinks zouden mislukken. In het stuk uit de NRC van afgelopen zaterdag toont Rutte zich boos, want had Klaver niet eerder met zijn immigratie-eisen kunnen komen. I work for a Christian School Board. My job is ICT. Not general ICT, but application management. So all day I, of course, get general ICT questions from coworkers and I refer them to the systems manager (some company on the phone) or I begrudgingly help them. Our office is in a building with mostly NGO's, for some reason. Another thing is our toilet is in the hall where every worker and visitor for the building comes in. When I've gone to pee, I usually try to ignore people that happen to be in the hall. For some reason today I didn't (the reason maybe being we'll be getting our own private toilets, in a few months!). Today, there was a woman in the hall that apparently didn't know where to go. So this time, instead of walking on, I asked: do you know where to go? So she did, but didn't understand how.
